Ironic is it the tiny park by my house with a circular path has the first name of Moses? Can you imagine walking in desert circles for 40 years? What about 40 minutes? Do you have 40 minutes to give to walk around in circles in nature and think about God? 40 minutes to walk in circles through a dinky park and think about God? If you are going to walk for 40 minutes in nature it better be worth it, like a state park at the very least.
If you spend a large portion of your day behind a computer, laptop, in an office, it is super healthy to get out and walk around a bit. I don’t like the woods that much because I am terrified of ticks!
Recently, I spoke to our community on the dependable Lord. It is a loaded religious phrase. The importance of waiting on God. What does this mean to wait on God anyway? I feel more comfortable when God waits on me. After years of anxiety, fear, pride, and addiction get the best of your life and soul you may consider otherwise.
Active waiting on God is a good regular healthy practice. It is not just sitting around doing nothing by yourself. That is privacy. Until recently, I had become completely burned out working two separate jobs for the past 4 years. It destroyed me. My soul spiritually, and my body physically. After countless hours of working through past issues I will discuss some other time, I made a significant lifestyle change. Sometime afterwards I went for a walk at Moses. Moses Wright park, walking around in a circle. A couple circles with Moses? Actually, when I read Moses, he points me to a newer Moses. Actually, I was walking in those circles with Jesus.
That’s when it hit me. Like a baseball to the head. Only I felt the goodness. All the stress, anxiety, fear fell off my shoulders and back. I became lighter.
Remarkable was the next time I sat down to the read the Bible, I experienced Christ in the scriptures. The page of paper became a burning flame without being lit by a match. The Bible has been referred to as a lion. This lion roared! First time in a I don’t know how long. He’s been there with me ever since. That daily bread HE gives is enough. It is a very very satiating bread like potatoes. Fills me up, and I am less anxious for anything else.
If God had asked me to walk around the desert for 40 years, my frustration would quickly peak to anger and remain parked there. Very grateful the waiting I do today is not in a physical desert. The active waiting can be performed in a tiny park down the street or my tiny basement office.
It’s time to start a new group called the Active Waitians. Will you join us? This is a pun on words, and can we come together and agree brief periods of time in, walking at a local park with Jesus is good for us? It is what can sustain us for the urban, city life to what God has called massive amounts of us to live, work, and play.

Isaiah 40:27-31 English Standard Version (ESV)
27 Why do you say, O Jacob,
and speak, O Israel,
“My way is hidden from the Lord,
and my right is disregarded by my God”?
28 Have you not known? Have you not heard?
The Lord is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He does not faint or grow weary;
his understanding is unsearchable.
29 He gives power to the faint,
and to him who has no might he increases strength.
30 Even youths shall faint and be weary,
and young men shall fall exhausted;
31 but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength;
they shall mount up with wings like eagles;
they shall run and not be weary;
they shall walk and not faint.
